What is your idea of a perfect meal? Does it include psychedelic mushrooms? If so, we have 5 tasty recipes for you. One issue, of course, is that magic mushrooms are probably the least palatable ingredient you’ll be working with. But as any psychonaut will tell you, that’s nothing but a workaround. So, strap on your apron and let’s get to it.

This iron chef’s challenge is to mask the flavour of the magic mushroom. Grinding them up into a powder and sprinkling them into other stronger tasting ingredients like marinara sauce or hot sauce, for instance. But let’s get creative with 5 tasty recipes!

1. Magic mushroom chocolate

Dubbed “food of the Gods” by the Aztecs, in this day and age you are more apt to associate chocolate with being in love. We think this dish will bring back the spiritual experience that the Aztecs originally intended. You’ll need:

  • A glass bowl
  • A sharp knife
  • A large saucepan
  • Chocolate moulds or a non-stick baking tray
  • Dried magic mushrooms
  • Several bars of chocolate (preferably dark chocolate)

In a glass bowl, place finely chopped chocolate, then place the chocolate into a saucepan with water. Bring the saucepan water to a boil and stir in the chocolate until the chocolate melts. Allow this to cool for a couple of minutes, then stir in your finely chopped mushrooms into the melted chocolate. Pour the chocolate/mushroom mixture into moulds and refrigerate.

2. Magic Mushroom Pesto

A strongly flavoured pesto is a great way to overpower the challenging mushroom taste. As with other pesto’s, it can be a dip with toasted pita bread or poured over pasta. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • ½ cup virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pine nuts
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese (vegans: nutritional yeast)
  • 2 cups of fresh herbs, like parsley, basil, or coriander
  • A kitchen blender
  • Your magic mushrooms (preferably fresh, but dried is fine)

Put all of that in a blender until chopped and blended, but still sort of chunky. Super easy and no heat! Full-on flavour and potency.

3. Shroom Tea

An easy tea recipe for either fresh or dried mushrooms. For fresh mushrooms, steep the tea for 5 minutes longer.

  • A saucepan
  • A fine mesh strainer
  • A teabag (of tea… for a tea flavour)
  • Sugar or honey (if you like)
  • Magic mushrooms

Grind shrooms into a powder and set aside. Heat the water, then set that aside. Let mushrooms steep in the water for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink. Add a teabag for flavour, with some sugar or honey if you like. You can keep the tea in the frig. For a couple of days, just mark it clearly.

4. Magic Mushroom Salad

No need to launch your journey on an empty stomach. This salad is tasty and nutritious… and magical. Mix all this to taste:

  • Mixed greens
  • Goat cheese
  • Pine nuts or walnuts (maybe even candied walnuts!)

Dressing:

  • Sesame oil (just a touch, easy to overdo)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tsp. mustard

Wash, and dry the greens. Cut up the leaves and mix. Toast the nuts and stir into the salad. Add the dressing to taste and stir. Sprinkle goat cheese on top. Place the salad (in an oven-proof bowl) under a broiler for about 30 to 60 seconds so that the cheese starts to melt. Allow to cool and sprinkle your chopped mushrooms on top. You may need more than one sitting to eat this one.

5. Magic Mushroom Balls

Here is another chocolate recipe. This is a popular way to enjoy magic mushrooms, because chocolate does a great job of masking their taste. Here’s what you’ll roll-in:

  • 100g organic, cold-pressed coconut oil
  • Salt
  • Maybe some dried fruit pieces, or some crushed nuts, or marshmallows? How about Graham Crackers, yum!
  • No-stick baking paper
  • 150g quality chocolate with high cocoa content
  • Magic mushrooms (powdered)

Grind the shrooms! Then gently melt your coconut oil in a double boiler to avoid boiling. You can add a little salt to lower the boiling point at this point if you like. Stir in the chocolate as it melts, until smooth. Let cool a bit and stir in your shrooms. As soon as the mixture starts to congeal, start rolling the balls. Place on the tray with the non-stick paper and place in the frig.

When you consider the health benefits associated with nominal amounts of magic mushroom use and the psychedelic experience it produces, the best way to start a recipe is to buy Zoomies magic mushrooms online. We only have one thing left to say– Bon Appetit.
