Make Magic Mushroom Coffee

Coffee is the most widely used drug in North America, and there has never been a wider variety of coffee variations and combinations.

Among many effects on our bodies, like altering our brain chemistry, activating liver detoxification processes, stimulating our nervous system and adrenals, affecting our pH and demineralizing the body, it has a half-life in our systems and can affect our sleep. On a positive note, coffee enhances dopamine and neuron firing, improves the brain’s mood, memory, and alertness, has antioxidants, and is energizing.

Magic Mushrooms and Coffee

By adding psychedelic mushrooms to your brew, you can include some health benefits, like alleviating anxiety and depression, and, depending on the dose, either add clarity and focus or experience a spiritual journey. It will also counteract some of the jitters and crash effects of the coffee. By combining the ingredients below, you can achieve more sustained energy. Plus, with a magic mushroom, you can look forward to a bit of a psychoactive journey, or you can use a microdose and simply counteract some of the less desirable effects of straight coffee, like the crash later in the afternoon.

A brew of coffee combined with mushrooms is surprisingly pleasant and mellow. If prepared properly, it is a good cup of coffee. It is not unlike drinking a cup of high-quality coffee, with added health benefits.

The origin

The use of mushrooms in coffee began in Finland during World War II. As the Finnish have been the largest consumers of coffee in the world per capita, and coffee was being rationed at the time, they were compelled to use alternative ingredients for the taste (much like the addition of chickery during the civil war).

The use of Chaga mushrooms by Isokauppila, providing numerous health benefits, was the birth of the mushroom/coffee trend.  Although the Chaga mushroom is now being used as an additive instead of a base, Isokauppila claimed that he and his team drew from the knowledge of their grandparents to resurrect a drink that’s now being touted as a sensation.

Hailed as the superfood of the future, mushroom coffee is a new product from Tero Isokauppila’s Finnish start-up Four Sigmatic. The company claims many health benefits from the coffee, specifically the drink’s “powerful antioxidants, anti-viral effects, and immune-boosting properties” without traditional coffee’s usual side effects.
