Psilocybin mushrooms are well suited for making tea. What better way to experience their introspective and thought-provoking benefits?

If you’d like a more leisurely approach to dosing magic mushrooms, rather than the usual, simple ways such as eating them directly or taking them in capsule form, prepare a nice hot and relaxing cup of shroom tea and boost those serotonin levels. The process of making tea can also be seen as a kind of ritual or a time for contemplation and intention, allowing you to shift to a mood befitting the experience to come. Of course, if you are in a hurry but still want a drink you can always use our iced tea drink mix.

How is a Tea Experience Different?

Drinking shrooms tea can be much easier on the stomach. Eating raw magic mushrooms, taking shroom capsules or taking shroom pills cause many people to experience nausea. Steeping shrooms extract the psilocybin from the mushroom, saving you from having to digest chitin. Chitin, a derivative of glucose, is found in the cellular structure that makes up fungi’s meaty fibrous tissue. This is unlike vegetation, the cells of which contain cellulose instead of chitin. Chitin is indigestible, causing nausea, which is one of the symptoms of indigestion.

If you steep your shrooms in hot water, after about 10 to 15 minutes, chitin and other mushroom components break down, making it easier on your stomach. Also, by running hot water through your magic mushroom dose, you can release the psilocybin into the water. You can choose to strain out the chunks or grinds of magic mushroom by then pouring the tea through a strainer, into another cup.

Tea drinkers say that drinking magic mushroom tea causes the psilocybin to hit you a bit faster than eating shrooms. Tea drinkers claim that you can “come up” on your trip faster because the hot water extracts the psilocybin, making it more quickly available. Although it is also said that the effect has a slightly shorter duration.

Part of the “availability” has to do with grinding up the shroom before steeping, creating more surface area for the extraction of the psilocybin.

By making tea, you can improve the taste and the effect by adding other ingredients for flavour.

Making Magic Mushroom Tea

A couple of simple ways to make tea:

Hot water extraction method: Your first decision is your dosage. Make sure you measure it out first. You’ll need a scale, make sure you measure out the right amount. Then you can grind up your magic mushroom and heat your water, at this point, you can add some ginger (also calming to the stomach), then place the ground mushroom in the water and let steep. Then strain into a cup. Add preferred flavouring (like honey) to taste, sit quietly and enjoy. Here are the steps:

  1. Finely chop some ginger (about a tablespoon). Add to a cup that can hold 6 to 8 ounces of water.
  2. Add finely ground shrooms (your measured dose from a coffee grinder)
  3. Pour in the hot water and stir. At this point, you may want to add a teabag of the tea flavour that you like.
  4. Let this all steep for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then pour through a strainer into an equal-sized cup.
  5. Add honey to taste if you like.

Lemon Juice extraction Method: Again, your first decision would be the accurate measurement of your dose. Much like mango is said to accentuate the effects of cannabis, many magic mushroom tea drinkers claim that either lemon juice or orange juice can intensify the effects of magic mushroom tea by extracting more psilocybin from the mushroom. This is sometimes referred to as “lemon trekking.” Citric acid, found in citrus fruits, potentiates the magic mushroom experience. Here are the steps:

  1. Grind your dose of magic mushrooms into a powder
  2. Squeeze enough citrus juice to completely cover and saturate the powder
  3. Wait 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes
  4. You can either strain into your tea (chamomile, lavender, or peppermint, etc.) or just consume the mixture

Psilocybin mushrooms are an organic hallucinogen. Different species have different potency. For instance, as mentioned, Psilocybe Mexicana is particularly potent. When choosing your species for brewing tea, be mindful of the proper dosage for that species.
